CCC LSP Usage Guide: SUSHI Setup, Maintenance, and Analysis
Alma allows you to upload and analyze COUNTER-compliant usage reports. The process of setting up your usage in Alma is fairly labor intensive. Most but not all vendors provide COUNTER reports, so you will not be able to integrate all of your usage in Alma Analytics. Nevertheless, taking the time to put usage from most vendors into Alma will improve your efficiency and capacity for analysis.
The COUNTER standard is designed to ensure that each vendor provides usage data in the same way, to allow us to compare usage across vendors and platforms. It also prescribes rigid formatting of reports so as to enable 3rd-party tools such as Alma to recognize and transform the data. These reports can in most cases be automatically retrieved using a protocol known as Standardized Usage Statistics Harvesting Initiative, or SUSHI.
COUNTER has recently transitioned from Release 4 (R4) to Release 5 (R5). Both versions are supported in Alma, but which version is available from a given vendor varies. We recommend that you focus your configuration efforts on COUNTER R5.
